Well it’s that time of year – Wow, did summer fly by!
To think that school is right around the corner gives me a mix of emotions! My baby girl is starting preschool. We spent all summer having tons of fun and checking off our summer bucket list, but now it’s time to face the reality of the changing season. So, we’re heading into routines, so no more late nights or playing out till dark.
With us heading to (pre)school, I decided to put together a back to school post to share some advice and the items we’ve picked up to prepare for the year ahead.
Preparing for back to school:
First, let’s talk about getting back into the swing of things!
You’ll be better prepared for the year ahead if you start getting back into bedtime and wake up routines as soon as you can. All times will be different for ages, but try and make sure you’re making a routine so that the kids aren’t confused on the first day of school.
Secondly, I’ve purchased a accountability/chore chart from Etsy for Ariella to follow for bedtime and daytime so that she has something to keep her in check for her daily routines. You can also find free printables on Pinterest!
Immune systems should be getting prepped up to fight! Which means.. healthy food, hand washing reminders, vitamins and whatever else works for your family!
Breakfast & Lunches:
Be sure to have an idea on when and what you will be making for the kids for breakfast and lunch everyday. If a meal prep schedule helps or prepping them the night before then be sure do that.
For lunch, one thing I’m super excited about is the Bentgo box! This will save me from always having to throw away so much garbage and is easily opened and closed and it has portions that Ariella will actually eat while staying super fresh through out the day!
Another option for toddlers who get bored of their food easily are sandwich cutters and fruit and veggie shapes to make it more exciting and different – they’ve been a hit in our house!
For snack time, something that has helped us this summer is having snacks accessible for Ariella to grab and go or put them in her backpack. My mornings have been going way more smoothly being prepared!
Picking out outfits the morning of doesn’t sound fun to me since I’m usually running around with no coffee and already disoriented from not being fully awake yet. So, I found this idea on Pinterest and thought I could try it out! It gives you a full week of outfits planned out so even your child can quickly grab them and put them on! How easy and fast is that?!
As much as you think you’re child will not misplace it, they will. Label all supplies, shoes, bags and just everything! We use Mabel’s Labels. They are absolutely amazing! Machine washable, water proof you name it!
You’re probably like what! Teacher gift – it’s only September?!
Hear me out: I have a lot of teachers in my family and I’ve also had a lot of AMAZING teachers in my life that have changed me forever! I SEE the importance that teachers have on our children. It’s CRAZY! So yes I will be giving a wonderful gift to our teacher because they truly deserve it!
You can give them a Tims or Starbucks gift card or a coffee mug with chocolate! Doesn’t have to be a huge gift. Just something to show that you appreciate them for helping them educate your children!
Paper clutter is so easy to just let pile up and it all ends up in a mess or in the garbage but if you want to keep some memories of your children’s work and colourings they make then try to keep them all organized and out of reach of children that can easily ruin them. You can buy accordion folders on amazon or a file container if you have multiple children!
Lastly, your child’s wardrobe. Unless your child has no clothes that fit them, I highly recommend a wardrobe capsule for seasons. Pieces you can use in several ways! Back to school time is already an expensive time – let’s all find cost savings wherever we can!!
Happy Back 2 School Time to all children and parents!
